Notable Quotable
Hiya Freshman Writers! Hope this finds you well and writing. This week’s Notable Quotable comes from George Gurdjieff.
I liked this quote because it shows how learning is a group effort. I learn all the time as I write here on The Freshman Writer and read all of your wonderful comments. Also being a member of online groups and forums helps me learn. Not only do I learn more about my particular craft, but I learn about the things that other people can do in the writing world.
We learn about writing from the work of others. Books, articles and websites alike. In all genres and all forms, someone else started the ball rolling. And we all learn from that.
So, here it is, this week’s Notable Quotable.
A man can only attain knowledge with the help of those who possess it ~ George Gurdjieff
Remember that as much as you learn, Freshman Writers, you also teach along the way. If online you find a question you can answer, do it. Share your knowledge as other writers have done with you. As Gurjieff wrote, we learn from each other.
Happy Writing!

When things don’t go as planned
Hiya Freshman Writers! Hope this finds you well and writing. Last week, I asked you all to lookout for something special this week on the site. Unfortunately, things did not go as I planned.
I wanted to host a guest post from a writer pal who is doing a virtual book tour. I planned to have her guest post up as well as an interview in addition to the Notable Quotable and Fav Friday. But, it didn’t happen.
She is also a writer-mom and her family is sick with the stomach flu. Why am I sharing this with you Freshman Writers?
Because this will also happen to you. There will come a time when you will plan something in your writing and it won’t happen due to circumstances beyond your control.
If you have a day job like I do, you’ve probably experienced this. If you’re a stay-at-home parent, you also can get this. Regardless Freshman Writers, life will get in the way and you’ll have to find alternate ways to reach your goals.
If I have a great idea and don’t have a notebook and pen handy, I write a note in my Blackberry. Or if it’s an idea and I want to expand on it, I use the email function.
Even if the plan changes, your goals don’t. Stick with your goals, talk to other writers about other ways to reach them, and remember that the things that frustrate us help us grow.
Happy Writing!

As a freshman writer myself, I’ve spent the last three years learning as much as possible about the writing business while having some of my work published. I believe that given the knowledge anyone can get published. It’s all about having the right information and using it to get your name out there. Keep checking back for new articles, links and writer news.
